HELLO NYCO!!
looking at chewfei that post, i feel guilty!! for stoning still, while chewfei has been planning these and emptying the dustbin in M4-01!
THUS,
laiweng is here to inspire everyone! (x so you better well be inspired i dont care!
Playing what you feel is easy when you understand what feeling is. Feeling is not emotion, yet it contains emotion.
To play what you feel does not require high or low emotional states. (In fact, when you play a piece of music, you need to put away all other emotions. If you were angry with someone, do not play it into your music!)
On the contrary, feeling is always with us and to just sit down and play is all that is required. Our feeling is what comes out of us in the moment. It lies in wait but is always there.
Think of freewriting as an analogy. To put pen to paper and just write what comes to mind, the writer is expressing feeling. Emotions may come up during this process, but they gradually return to the pool of feelings from which they came.
Playing comes a music that is not forced or willed into being. On the contrary, feeling is allowed to be expressed normally and naturally. It becomes an easy thing to do, just like freewriting.
(Though in the case of NYCO, even if you do not feel anything, you still have to fake it out no matter what kay!! :D )
It is also important to enjoy whatever you are playing, even if you think that the piece of music is the worse thing you have ever heard, still play along and try to fall in love with it!
Delve into your heart and soul, play with your HEART, not simply just the notes.
Look at those crescendos, dimuendos (sp?), the climax, the chordal emphasis. You might think that all these are just to decorate and spice the song up, but in fact, it is to portray whatever story or scene it is supposed to represent.
There is always a WHY behind each song. For example, Wen Qi composed Xiao Le Xiao Qu to portray the times during CO pracs, just like artists get inspiration for their art works from something. Of course, there may be some weird music that does not hold any meaning, but those are really really rare.
To play a music well, it is crucial that the player understands the meaning of the song she is playing, so that she can play the piece according to the composer’s meaning. Imagine if the composer meant a specific part to be furious, but yet the player plays it as sorrow, wouldnt it be such a joke?
The aim, as a music player is to touch the listener. Citing a concert we went to (I shall not say the name of the soloist though), everyone agreed that the girl s technique was excellent, the technical playing was flawless, but everyone was realy bored with the concert, not because the songs chosen were boring, but simply because the girl herself doesnt enjoy the music thus the audience didnt enjoy it too.
Let us all work towards making our audience cry!
WAHAHAHA.
[edit] laiweng is proud of the first job she has done! (: [/edit]
